The Good, The bad and the Really Good! Latest Revolution Spree

img_1532

A couple of months ago I popped into Superdrug and accidentally drop a bomb of money on a few Revolution products. Having never used the brand before I bought a range of products to test out as I wanted to really see if there was something I liked as their prices are so affordable.

I’m going to start with the product everyone has raved about recently and that is the Conceal and Define concealer. The basics are, it is £4.00 for 4 grams/ 0.14 fl oz and has a large shade range of 16 colours available (if you can get your hands on them). The shade I purchased was C2 which is not as light as I normally go for but C1 was out of stock. There is a lot of hype around this stating it rivals the Tarte shape tape which will cost you £22.00.

I’ve been using this for a few weeks and it has become my favourite concealer, the coverage is amazing. I can wake up with the darkest of circles under my eyes and feel confident that this product will cover them with no trouble. The consistency is lightweight, it blends like a dream without lifting the foundation underneath and once set with powder will last throughout the day. I’ve also used this for a cut crease as the coverage is there and its very easy to apply/blend. For £4.00 it’s a total must have.

Another product in my over flowing basket was the Soph x ultra eye shadow palette (this is the first release as I now know she has creates another palette with revolution that has recently gone on sale). For £10.00 it has twenty for shade with colours ranging from neutrals, a few warm shades and a good few foils. To look at I do like the setup of the palette and feel you have the option to create many looks with the colours available.

The shadows have a nice texture that blends well although the neutrals I did have to build up to get desired effect as they were very light on my skin. In comparison the brighter shades need little building as the colours are very strong. The foils were not as bold as I would have liked, they definitely perform better when using a wet brush or your finger but I would have liked more pop!! I think this is on the right price point, not one of my favourite palettes but you can get a good look and due to it size it was the only palette I took on holidays.

As we are currently talking palettes I also bought the Blush Goddess palette because you know.. I am one (a goddess that is not a blush). This contains eight shades two peach toned blushes and two pink toned blushes with four highlight colours along the top row all for £6.00.

I have used this a couple of times and again it is not one of my favourites. The blush colours are very subtle which I don’t mind to much as I do prefer to build my blush rather than look like I’ve been attacked with Krusty the Clowns’ make up gun. The blush does sit on the skin well, the colours are nice looking and I was able to blend them well, I am just against the powder flying everywhere when you dip the brush in the pan. It’s not awful though and I will be using these blush shades again.

The four highlighter shades are lovely to look at in the pan but didn’t do much for me. The first two colours when used I find hard to tell any difference between them (I think one has a more purple undertone). and the other two are just not for my skin type. As with the blush I think they may have gone a bit OTT with the talc because you will go up in a puff of smoke when you use these minus the genie three wishes. Due to their texture I didn’t like the way the highlight was on my skin it added texture and that is not something I wish to be highlighting.

In comparison the liquid highlighter is something I have fallen in love with! I purchased the Champagne colour and it really is complimentary to my fair skin tone. The applicator is a pipette and one drop is enough to have you golden so the 1.8ml will last ages. This colour is particularly reflective, giving a nice glow that can be subtle or built up to shining beacon.

Due to this being so easy to apply and blend onto the skin it has made me think about just using a liquid highlighter for the foreseeable. At just £6.00 this is up there with the concealer, being an item I now use whenever I do my make up routine.

My last two products I bought were complete impulse buys, the retro luxe matte lip kit in Grandee (£6.00) because you can never have enough lip kits in your life and the luxury powder in banana (£5.00).

The Lip kit I have no complaints with although I cannot comment on the lip pencil as for some reason there wasn’t one present in the box.

Check your boxes before purchase people.

The liquid lipstick has an easy to use applicator which dispenses the colour to lips evenly and without being streaky. The dry down time is around one minute and it’s texture once dry is alike to many other matte liquid lips. It is not sticky in any way but will need reapplying throughout the day once eaten or drinking. Over all this is a nice matte liquid lip for £6.00 it does what it needs to and looks pretty when applied. When I need to be a bit tighter with my make up funds I would purchase some more colours.

Moving on to my second impulse buy the luxury powder in Banana, I could not tell you why I even bought this. Before even purchasing this I know Banana powders are to yellow for me and make make me look like I’ve been projectile vomiting for a week so this is entirely the wrong shade. I may have lost my mind with this one, when I open my make up drawer and see it I shake my head and ask myself, “What in the hell did I do!”

Usage wise it is a screw top and the only place to put your product when using is in the screw top so a big mess follows wherever this powder goes. The product applies well and is ideal for baking and catching eye shadow fall out. It brushes away easily and leaves a light veil of powder that would add nicely to concealer highlight if it was the correct shade. Throughout the day I do feel like this did build up in my pores ever so slightly and made them even more visible so it won’t be going down on my hit list or must haves but if you only needed your make up to last about three or four hours this could help with oil control.

To sum up the conceal and define is a holy grail and not to be ignored, the liquid highlighter is another favourite of mine and is great if you really want to glow your face up. The soph x eye shadow palette is a good option for the price range and has a lot of looks available from the colours, I will also be purchasing a few more colours in their retro luxe matte lip kit collection as again for the price they are worth it. Massive no’s have been the luxury powder and the blush palette as they are just to messy for me to deal with.

What are your thoughts and feelings on Revolution? I love a good high street brand but often find they can be hit or miss with certain items. Have you tried any of their other products not mentioned that I need to add to my drawers? Let me know in the comment section below. I also spend a lot of my days on twitter talking life, make up  and beauty so you can also find me there @Katesbeautyhome.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow a must have in any brow addicts tool kit

After watching the advert for Maybelline’s Tattoo Brow I have been dying to try it but always got the fear of becoming Charlie Simpson from Busted (if you are to young to remember these I suggest you YouTube “year 3000” that’s my jam). When going on one of my many shopping sprees for new make up I finally purchased it on total impulse, here is what happened.

Product wise the Maybelline Tattoo brow will cost you £12.99 for 4.6 grams, the colour I have is medium brown but I believe it is available in three shades. Inside you get the product and instructions can be found on the side of the box. The dye can last up to three days and when I spend so much on brow tints I think this could be a great option.

When I said this was a brave impulse buy it becomes even more relevant when you open the product and see the brush you have to apply this with. For some reason I thought it would be an angled brush that would help with precision and even application but it is actually flat ended and saturated in a thick blackish liquid that resembles tar. The phrase “What the hell am I doing?” and “This could go horribly wrong!” spring to mind but on I go praying for the eyebrows of Cara Delevingne.

To begin I pluck away stray hairs and call upon my Anastasia brow stencils to lightly draw out the shape I wish to achieve (I am rubbish at drawing them on free hand, honestly I give myself a uni – brow). Once all this is done it is time to APPLY THE PRODUCT!!

Upon opening the tint itself does have a smell of dye but that is to be expected, it is not overpowering and personally I quite like the smell.

A word of advice if you are worried about a reaction to the product you can do a test on your arm or hand before using. The box does not state that you need to do this but as it is a dye and I’m a person that can have breakouts from certain products I did do this.

The flat edged brush that I was so worried about using earlier is surprisingly easy to use. The tint is quite thick and appears to grip the hairs as you use the brush so this helps with accuracy. It is not as messy as I thought and in all honesty I was able to get the shape I wanted in a matter of minutes without making mistakes.

Although the tint is thick in texture I did need to re – dip the brush in product a few times per eyebrow as you do need to ensure the layer is thick enough to peel off later.

The tint dries down quickly and is very lightweight, it doesn’t go hard or flaky like a face mask would so you are able to move and make expressions if you need to. This comes in very handy when your husband compares your new brows to Borat’s moustache.

Now we wait. In order to achieve a three day tint the product has to stay on for two hours so I suggest you catch up on your latest TV series, read a book or start writing your next blog post as it going to be a while. I don’t suggest you drink a bottle and a half of wine and forget you even put the product on, you will be guaranteed to get some strange looks the next day and Cara Delevingne you are not!

Anyway after a full two hours it is time to grab a pair of tweezers and gently peel away the tint for the big reveal of my new brows. I for one am more then anxious (I have the school run in the morning and do not wish to wear plasters over my brows).

Removal is extremely easy, The tweezers can successfully grasp the product from the inner corner of the brows and gently pull the product away without pulling any hairs or leaving and residue. I did get a little bit left under the brow but I removed this with a damp cotton bud and that did the trick.

The reveal has me amazed. I don’t know why I was so worried as the overall effect is a very natural and defined brow. The shape has stayed exactly as I wanted and my sparse hairs appear thicker and less bald. They really do look like I have had them done at my salon. The colour is no where near as dark as the tint you apply which I am thankful, it really does blend in well with my natural brow colour.

As the days go on the tint has lasted well, I’d say about for days before is completely gone. During this time I have used a oil based and milk based cleanser plus numerous other skincare products without worrying about if it’s getting in my brows. The colour also breaks down evenly, there were no extreme patches where it had come away in one area and was still in others.

The Maybelline brow tint is something I will be re- purchasing, I have already used it again after my first experience and gained the same results. It is just so easy to use and really does help out when you’ve been to busy to get to your latest eyebrow appointment.

Let me know your thoughts and feelings on this, have you tried this brow tint or others similar? Have you had fear of using it in case it goes horribly wrong? Give me a comment down below and I will get back to you or you can find me on twitter @Katesbeautyhome as this is where I spend most of my life. Links are below for both the brow tint and the brow stencils.

Bye for now.

NARS are upping the foundation game in 2018

Today I’m going to be talking NARS natural radiant long wear foundation … try saying that with a mouth full of Malteasers. Now this is one hyped foundation with many feeling it’s the foundation of the year when we have only just seen the back of January. It is one product I simply had to get my hands on and test, is everything I’ve heard true?

img_1050

Starting with the basics, NARS radiant long wear foundation retails at £35.00 for 1fl 0z. / 30ml which gave me a slight nose bleed but it is NARS so to be expected.

I have to give NARS a big congrats on their shade range as this foundation is available in a massive 33 shades ranging from very light to deep. The shade pictured is “Oslo” (light 1) which is the lightest shade of the range.

“A little advice if your going to order the foundation online and are worried about choosing your shade I used the NARS website to determine my shade and then bought from House of Fraser website as the shipping on NARS was slightly high (I will link both sites below).”

Last thing to note and its a biggie, NARS is promising the foundation has 16 hours worth of wear. Yes you read right 16 hours!!

Upon using I found that this foundation is very thin and liquidy which is very surprising considering the amount of coverage you gain, making it easy to build to the ideal look you want. Two pumps can be used to cover the whole face creating a blank canvass with all natural redness and dark spots covered. (below I have included a photo of the coverage achieved on my tattoo for an example)

img_1049

Due to the texture being so thin it leaves a lightweight feel which I am all for as I do love being full coverage but hate the feeling of being weighed down by foundation.

I have to go back and compliment NARS once again on their shade range! I think this is the closest shade to my natural skin tone I have ever had and for me this is everything as I normally have to use a whitener to tone down other foundation shades. From looking at the whole range available it would be shocking to me if I heard someone was unable to find a shade that was right for them.

Speaking of the shade, once applied it does oxidise ever so slightly, the colour change is barley noticeable so I am not mad at it and I’ve used other foundations where the change has been way more dramatic and I’ve looked like a walking spray tan gone wrong.

The finish is beautiful, giving a smooth complexion and no caking. It is not a full matte product so it doesn’t dry down fully meaning you can actually raise an eyebrow without feeling your face is going to crack into a million pieces.

Saying this I did need to set with powder paying particular attention to my T-Zone area as I get oily here throughout the day, I did feel the foundation would just run off this area if not set right therefore achieving a look I was not going for.

The foundation worked well with other product and stayed in place without being stripped away or caking up throughout liquid concealer application and other powders on top. I was more then satisfied with the performance during the making up stages.

Leading me onto how long this lasts, can this go a full 16 hours??

Honestly I don’t know who would need a foundation on for 16 hours of the day but I do feel if set right with powder you will get a full working day or a night out with a flawless base and no need for touch ups.  The product stays put, stays smooth and gave such a lovely coverage to my face I think its the best my skin has looked, it lasted as long as I needed and has become my go to foundation especially if I have a event, party or special occasion to attend.

Let me know in the comments below if you have tried the NARS natural radiant foundation and your thought. I have heard people say its the foundation of 2018 this early in the year!! I can also be found on twitter @KateL564 so come and join the blog chats and just general discussions.

Thank you for reading.

Putting the Wunder back into my brows

3D6D16DA-6A51-470C-B398-2B819BAA1039

The Wunderbrow went viral some time ago, I always thought it was an Instagram craze that didn’t really work and something I wasn’t willing to spend my hard-earned money on. How has this changed for me and why have I had a sudden interest? The answer is my friends opinions, they are completely split down the middle. Some of them love the product feeling they cannot complete their brow routine without it and others saying they found it fiddley and hard to get to grips with. Me being me I had to get one and weigh in with my opinion.

Off I popped to Amazon to purchase this potentially amazing / potentially horrific brow gel for a sum of £19.95. I began to think the latter was about to come to life and I was setting myself up for a fail when I realised the Wunderbrow only offers five shades consisting of Auburn, blonde, black/brown, brunette and jet black. Comparing this to the twelve shades offered in the dip brow range from Anastasia Beverly Hills (£19), I wasn’t exactly filled with confidence that Wunderbrow was going to work out for me. Is it possible to cover many different shades of brown brow hair with just brunette as an option? Yet Wunderbrow does promise the “perfect brow in two minutes” and considering my current fifteen minutes or more routine it was worth a punt.

Next day it arrived and I became all the more baffled! Inside is 3g/ 0.15oz of the product, a spoolie and some instructions (which you may as well wipe your butt with but more on that later).

8D0ADA41-5E3F-472A-8948-39E81716A712

The confusion began when I opened the Wunderbrow and saw that the applicator is a lip gloss style paintbrush and I wondered how I was going to apply the product to the brows without A. making a very messy, not so sharp shape and B. gaining such perfect results in two minutes. This called for UNHELPFUL INSTRUCTION TIME!!

Well the instructions say to apply the applicator to the brows in light strokes to build the shape and effect you wish, the problem is the brush picks up so much product that even if you wipe off some it still too much and the brush is too thick to achieve any kind of shape without making a huge mess and which would be even considered respectable to wear outside. To continue with the instructions it then says to spoolie through and gain desired effect although the product takes nano seconds to dry down. The results being more slug then chic.

Once I had sacked off the instructions and gone it alone I found a much easier way to use, which actually allows you to step outside your front door without scaring the nation. I placed a blob of product on the back of my hand and used an eyebrow brush (M.A.C 263 £16.50 but any eyebrow brush will do) and carefully carved out the shape I wanted before beginning to fill in the sparse hairs. I used the spoolie throughout doing this and overall gained a much better look which to my surprise I really liked, More chic then slug.

The colour matched well to my natural brow colour especially when applied with the eyebrow brush as you have more control over the amount of product and accuracy of application and can build up to however bold you want to go. A quick dry down does mean you build up a good stain to your brows so the shape and colour will last up to two / three days before it begins to fade and it needs removing before you start to scare the public once more. Upon removal you will need to invest in an oil based remover which you will also need for the back of your hand if you choose to apply with the eyebrow brush.

So the big questions, do I use it? and would I purchase again?

I think hell has literally frozen over because my answer is YES! OK you are not going to get your perfect brow in two minutes but can you expect that from any brow product when we can be so fussy with how our brows look.

If you are looking for something that can be added to your normal routine that lasts a couple of days leaving you to continue your life without having to worry about a brow streaming down your face in the rain then I’d recommend trying this. It has become a vital part of doing my brows due to its staying power. It fills in sparse hairs well and as the gel dries it fixes the hairs into place preventing them from sticking upwards or wandering out of the desired shape.

Let me know in the comments below your thoughts on the Wunderbrow, Does it work for you? or do you hate it? Have you found another way to use it? I’m also available on twitter @KateL564 so if you want to follow or comment me there your more then  welcome. Big thank you for reading.

New Huda First Impressions

3F992664-9D4F-4F9D-A5BB-215AEF5E3D32

It has recently been my birthday (remember remember the 5th of November) and the husband treated me to some treats off my ever growing beauty list!! This years consisted of the New Huda obsessions palette in warm brown and the contour & strobe lip set in trophy wife/ shameless, which retail at £25.00 for obsessions palette and £29.00 for lip set from cult beauty (linked below).

Starting with the lip contour & strobe set, you are getting a full size lip pencil 1.20g/0.04oz in your chosen shade plus a mini liquid matte and lip strobe, the matte being 1.9ml and the strobe being 2.0ml all confided in a massive pair of lips (tin) that will also be of your chosen colour. Honestly this is by far one of the best ways i have seen a lip kit packaged, it’s very fun and I can promise you will be placing the tin over your mouth whilst trying to take a selfie.

EAC6B0C2-32D1-4C69-ABCC-64D38AB1D2AA

Product wise my favourite part of the kit is the lip pencil, it has a nicely shaped point and is super soft making it really easy to apply. There is no need to use loads of pressure pushing down and dragging across your lips like with some firmer lip liners so you definitely save yourself a minor injury and a chaffed lips.

Surprisingly due to the light pressure applied you still gain strong lines and bold colour pay off, it glide on, does not chap or feel dry and is one of the best liners I have used.

Moving on to the Matte liquid lip and if you have never used Huda Beauty before one thing I can say is the smell of her lip products are amazing, I’d say its a vanilla/coconut smell that put me very much in mind of the jouer x jeffree star collaboration lip topper. It’s very sweet but not overpowering.

Once your done getting high off the scent it applies like a dream, the applicator is a lovely shape so you can get in to all the corners and due to the lips being lined it is impossible to mess it up. It dried down completely in about sixty-second so you have plenty of time to perfect your application. As with the liner the colour pay off is strong and you only have to dip once to gain enough for a full lip with no streaks. Once dried there is no sticky feel but it doesn’t over dry your lips.

The lip strobe has the same incredible smell as the liquid matte whilst giving you enough shine to really glam up your look. It applies well as with the liquid matte although you may need to re-dip the applicator to cover the whole lip. The look is very reflective and great for evenings out although it does need re applying throughout as the lips stay wet so eating and drinking cause collateral damage.

Is it worth £29.00? I do feel it is value for money when you consider the price of the Huda full size products, the items are a high quality and are lovely to use, plus if your a sucker for packaging (as I am) it is eye catching.

The other item I snapped up was the obsessions eye shadow palette in warm brown which includes nine shade, eight of them being matte and one shimmer/foil. It’s a little fold up palette with mirror included, perfect for nights out as it is small enough to keep in your make up bag or evening bag.

F129D09E-F8E4-40CB-AB90-DD6C06CD2336

The colours themselves consist of one neutral cream that can be used as a base or eyebrow highlight, seven other warm shades ranging from browns, reds, oranges, and purple tones. The pise de resistance is the shimmered gold which takes centre stage in the palette layout (I have swatched the colours below which start from the top left corner of palette).

9756228C-38D4-49B6-A17E-897A62E60302

The formula is very creamy and blendable with a good pigmentation, there is little to no fall out with the matte shades and only a little extra with the gold which is to be expected due to the glitter. From the colours available you can create many warm toned looks and really sparkle them up with the gold making it great for the current festive season.

Considering the price of the palette and how small it is to look at I am really surprised by how much I have enjoyed using it, but the quality in the shadows is just there so it makes blending and achieving looks effortless. I like how compact it is, making it easy to travel with, I like the mirror and its size (plenty big enough to use whilst doing your eyes on the go) and I love love love the gold colour. Like with the lip kit if you compare the price of Huda full size palettes with the content of these you are getting value for money.

As always let me know your thoughts! How do you feel about the pricing? Are these on your Christmas wish list? Comment down below or on twitter @KateL564. Thank you for reading.

The best liquid lip from Smashbox

4E8BE4B2-5EA2-4564-9000-0ECEF6A7EB5C

After three weeks away from blogging as each of my children have come down with viruses, it is safe to say I am finally back on it and ready to indulge in as much make up and skincare as possible.

One of my most recent purchases has been two of the Smashbox always on liquid lipsticks. These are the first Smashbox products I’ve ever tried and I’m going to jump right in and say they are AMAZING.

The two colours I purchased are “some nerve” (purple) and “chill zone” (grey) both retailing at £19.00 each for 13fl. Oz/ 4ml from the Smashbox website. They have 20 shades to choose from in their always on liquid lip range so you will not be stuck for choice.

I bought these a few weeks ago so have had plenty of time to play around with them and test their 8 hour lasting claim and I am so in love with these, they are beyond good.

The applicator is very easy to use and due to its pointed edge you can get a really precise edge that does not bleed out, even with the two bold colours that I have chosen. There is also enough product on the applicator from one dunk to complete the whole lip without any gaps, runs or patches.

During application the liquid feels soft, smooth and is very light weight. It glides on easily and gives plenty of time to get you application perfect before it even starts to dry down to a matte finish.

The colours are extremely strong and pigmented, you definitely don’t have to “layer up” to gain a bold, even look, the product pretty much does this on one application. The colours themselves are lovely and the range really does have a vast choice (nudes, reds, purples and grey are all available).

79EE0CAF-265F-48EA-A3BA-A1A2E1846794

Once the lipstick has dried down it is surprising how soft your lips still feel as other liquid mattes can be quite drying and heavy on the lip. The all day wear is very light and if it wasn’t for the bold colours it would be hard to tell there was anything on your lips from touch alone. There is no stickiness or cracking making it an all round pleasant product to wear.

To test out the 8 hour wear claim I used the grey one first thing in the morning and went about my day, drinking coffee, water (minus a straw), eating and just generally doing everyday things. These little babies last!!

After about two hours I was surprised by how good my lips were looking, the colour still going strong with no bleeding, cracking or crumbling. My lips still didn’t feel dried out and I was still rocking a good look lip wise.

Six hours in and things were still holding up. The colour was fading slightly but not in a way where it needed re applying or looked messy. The colour was just not as bold as it had been at the start of the day.

I removed the liquid lip before the full eight hours as I was removing all other make up at the time and the only way it would remove completely is with an oil based liquid.

Due to it having such staying power and being so bold in colour I was expecting my lips to stain slightly but they didn’t which is an added bonus.

Overall these are impressive! Price wise they are a mid range product and as you literally only need one swipe for a full coverage of colour they will take a while until your at empty bottle stage.

The range of colours available is great as there is a lot of choice and their easy application and staying power is a winner.

I will definitely be purchasing a few more from the range, whilst looking at other Smashbox products to try out.

Any thoughts on these let me know in the comments below or on twitter @KateL564. Also any recommendations of other Smashbox products that have worked for you would be appreciated.

Jeffree Star x Manny MUA Bundle

3A236F13-7248-4FF2-8716-64541DB70204

I have been admiring these products since they were originally launched and missed out last time so there was no way I was going to miss out on this collab when it was released for a second time. Believe me it has not been easy!

My first order was for the bundle box which included the two liquid lipsticks and their new Uranus highlight so I paid for it and waited for the next day delivery, only to receive an email saying there was a problem with the order and they were now out of stock. I then had to re-order the items individually but could only get the original Eclipse highlighter as beauty bay did not carry Uranus as an individual.

After  all the chaos I have finally got the items and they are beautiful. I hate to be a lover of the packaging as all in all if the product doesn’t work it doesn’t matter how it looks in the box, but seriously the presentation on these is one of my favourite.

The boxing is a chequered matte black and holo black so when you move it in the light it glimmers, giving a look of twinkling stars in the sky (which is rather fitting with the planet theme). This packaging got me all excited to use the products.

I’m going to start with the Eclipse highlighter, as with all of his products it 100% vegan and cruelty free (no bunnies harmed here which is nice). For £25.50 you are getting 15g/0.53oz of product.

This is my first Jeffree Star highlighter and before buying I was told they were big and by god that is true. It is literally one of the biggest pans I have owned and it is full to the top with shimmering powder.

The highlight itself looks golden in the pan but upon use it gives a very pink shimmer that I like as I’m fair and golden highlights can look like a very shimmery bronzer on my cheekbones (not a good look to see).

6364A004-CDCE-41E7-A0A6-32543CA15FDA

The formula is soft, creamy and lightweight so no problems there. It is also very blendable but it does need to be built up to achieve a blinding look. It is great for day to day and it doesn’t have to be built up too much for a stronger look.

I found that with a wet brush it gave a very intense look which is “what I like” (thank you Bruno). By doing this you really will be glowing to the point the stars themselves will wonder what they have been doing wrong. This shit is dramatic.

Price wise this isn’t the cheapest of highlighters out there but for myself I’d put it up with some of the best. It is just a dream to work with and the effect you can get with a damp brush has me sold. For me it out performs many of my other highlights which range from higher end to high street.

Moving on to the velour liquid lipsticks in “I’m Shook” and “Daddy” that retail for £16.00 each and you get 0.19fl oz/5.6ml of product.

72DF70C8-107D-4B02-9FA0-A5341010CB49

I bought these purely out of curiosity as I already own one of Jeffree’s Liquid lipsticks “drug lord” and I wasn’t a fan.

I’ll start with “I’m Shook” which is a burnt red/coral and it is highly surprising.

The colour is very strong and doesn’t streak, I didn’t have to go back and fill in gaps and it dried down nicely, lasting a good number of hours before needing touch ups.

The colour is stunning and very comfortable to wear although due to it being so bold I will be using this more for evening make up.

”Daddy” is my piece de resistance of the whole set. It’s a cool brown and can be used for day or night.

It applies the same as I’m Shook, giving enough colour off one swipe that you don’t need to go back and fill in gaps. Again it dried well and lasted a number of hours before re touch.

For both these liquid lips the applicator I found really easy to work with and gained great results without feeling the need to line my lips before hand.

As I whole I do love this launch it is extremely good quality and has been one of my favourite bundles I have bought in a while. It is pricey but really pretty, having products that can be used daily (this is how I justify it to myself). Again if your a Jeffree or Manny fan your going to want these in your collection and if your not I don’t believe you would feel let down by the products as they give great results.

Let me know what you think in the comments or on twitter @KateL564. Also if anyone knows any other colours from Jeffree’s line which are worth giving a try give me a shout.

Love for Lamora

IMG_0438

I have recently found myself in the dilemma of been inited for dinner at short notice and not having the time to wash my make up brushes (I did really think this was a drama!! Crazy I know). I decided to order new with fast delivery, but I also didn’t want to pay a packet for them as I do love my current ones and “I’m all about saving”.

I started looking on amazon and came across a brand called Lamora, they had received good reviews, were available on prime, and were a good price.

Against every fibre in my body I took the plunge and bought a eye blending brush set (£9.95) and an eyebrow brush set (£8.95) praying they weren’t going to be as dreadful as I was imagining!

The blending brush set contains four brushes consisting of a Tapered blender, all over shader, crease and soft blender so for the price of £9.95 it’s a pretty decent deal.

The eyebrow brush set contains three brushes which include a small shader, flat definer and a brow duo containing a angled brush and spoolie for £8.95, again that seems like a lot of brushes for the money so I wasn’t expecting the best of quality.

In all honesty when they arrived I was very surprised! The packaging is nice and simple and each brush comes individually wrapped inside.

I have heard that when you buy cheaper brushes they sometimes have a chemical smell and these don’t have this. They actually don’t smell at all which is pretty damn good as you don’t want to put something smelly near your eyes.

The handles are strong with the brushes firmly attached. Each brush has Lamora engraved with a number and description indicating how it is to be used, which is great for beginners but also handy when in a rush. They are a nice sleek black colour and look fine in my collection alongside other more expensive brushes.

The main surprise for me was the softness and how well they work. I expected them to be stiff and the hairs to be slightly rough but these are butter soft and do not pull or drag on the eyes. They pick up product really well and due to the softness they are easy to use when blending out product without a great effort.

The brush hairs are surprisingly strong and I didn’t have any loose hairs break free across my face when I was using them. They also held their shape well after use, no fraying or straggling hairs sticking out all over the place.

Sooo what I have learnt is don’t judge a brush by its price. I think sometime we feel we need to buy such expensive products in order to gain flawless results and it just goes to show that sometimes you can acheive as good results with products a bit more wallet friendly.

Let me know if you have tried these brushes or have alternatives that a purse pleasing that have become your favourites. As always comment below or tweet me @KateL564.

E.L.F Making Me High Street Happy

IMG_0424

I believe I may have been living under a rock for the last ten years as I have never taken the time to try any E.L.F cosmetics.

Until NOW!!

I had recently been browsing their website and thought to myself I may as well try some of this stuff out, so I ordered a bundle of different things to try out.

1. E.L.F Brush Shampoo (£4.50) – A clear shampoo to be used with water to clean all your make up brushes.

For me this did some of the job, on fan brushes and brushes used for lighter products this worked a gem and cleaned them right up, but for eyeshadow brushes and blush or anything where you have used stronger colours it did not remove all the discolouration.

It has a neutral smell with no chemicals and is very gentle to the brush itself leaving it with a soft fluffy texture.

2. E.L.F Flawless Finish Foundation in Light Ivory (£7.50) – It is really surprising the range of foundation colours E.L.F has to offer for a high street brand. Normally I use a whitener to lighten my foundations but the Light Ivory was the perfect shade.

This formula is light and you really feel like you aren’t wearing anything at all. It blends smoothly and takes other products well.

Coverage is subtle, it’s a foundation I’d use for day to day wear when I don’t need something so full on. This would feel great when your on a good skin day as it enhances your skin more then covers the cracks. It has SPF 15 which is an added bonus when it’s such a high street price.

Recommendation wise, if you have good skin and want to show it off and if your not so into the full coverage look, this is definitely something to try out.

3. E.L.F Baked Highlighter in Moonlight Pearls (£5.00) – One thing I love in life is a bright ass highlight! As much as I wanted to love this (the colour in the pan looks so shiny) I just don’t.

The colour pay off is just not there and it is way too subtle for me, you can build the powder up to gain a stronger effect but this takes time and effort.

On the plus it has a really soft, creamy texture, blends well on the skin and creates little mess in the pan. Again like the foundation it is great for a subtle everyday look (I will be using mine as a body highlight).

4. E.L.F Hydrating Face Primer (£7.50) – This is by far my favourite thing of the bundle! A clear liquid primer that has a gel like texture and feels extremely moisturising in a non greasy/oily way.

Considering this gives a matte finish it feels almost sticky on the skin (not Winnie the Pooh stuck in his honey jar sticky but tacky). I felt it gave a plump to my skin and made it feel super smooth.

Due to the texture it left on my skin once I added foundation it stayed in place all day. DID NOT MOVE!

For the price tag this is a great product that I will probably choose over my M.A.C primer and begin to use daily with or without make up.

5. E.L.F Lip Primer & Plumper (£4.50) – So this comes as a lip duo with one end of the stick being the primer and the other being the plumper and it is strange to say the least.

The primer is written on the box as a natural colour so I was assuming a light beige but no it is yellow. Yes LaLa Teletubbies yellow!

Despite the colour it isn’t bad and prepped my lips lovely before lip liner and lipstick. It helped create an even finish and prevented bleeding. I do advise exfoliating the lips before hand as if the skin is dry the primer will crack when applied, but I did like the effects of the primer side.

Here we get to the plumper side and I am about to sound like I need committing as it is really not going to make sense. As stated in the box the plumper is actually clear so we started well.

The smell is so strong “the husband” refused to come near me with it on. I think it’s aniseed smelling but I’m not sure. And despite my husbands repulsion, I love the smell (I think it’s a bit marmite for people love/hate).

Application became even more strange when I was expecting the product to tingle as with many other plumpers. No this thing feels like a wasps nest is living on your lips. It stings and don’t really feel there was much plumping going on but (and this may suggest something about my psyche) I love it but not for the faint hearted.

As I stated before I must have been living under a rock to have not tried E.L.F cosmetics before. They are great value for money and very fun to try. I have found some staple products and can’t wait to try more.

Let me know what you think in the comments or on twitter @KateL564.

Jouer x Jeffree Star

IMG_0368.JPGThe latest Jouer lip topper has been released and it being a colab with Jeffree Star it is everything you would expect from the beauty mogul. The name being sweet tooth, it being the brightest of pink in colour and absolutely loaded with glitter. It really is like tinsel for the mouth!

Retailing at £13.50 every penny from this product goes to the Los Angeles LGBT Centre with neither companies taking a dollar for themselves which is great to see and hopefully sets an example for other brands to follow suit.

Here in the U.K it is available on beauty bay (I love this as you avoid shipping and custom prices but still get a chance to buy the product same time as the U.S) elsewhere I believe it is the jouer website. For the price you are getting 5.9ml / 0.20 fl. oz. of the topper, it being the same size as Jouer’s other toppers such as skinny dip.

What makes this product special? The packaging is different from their previous with a shiny metallic pink for the box, pressed with the Jouer logo, Jeffree’s signature to the front and the Jeffree Star cosmetics logo to the side of the box. The screw top of the product is a new chrome pink again with the Jeffree Star on the top. It is Jouer’s first pink lip topper and Jeffree himself has stated that there is more glitter present in this lip formula then any other in the Jouer line. So this baby is going to make lips shine!!

The box states this can be used on its own or under your favourite lip colour so I will be trying with both. Above I have swatched the colour on its own on my hand, the second is under a nude and the third under a bright just to give an example of the look.

Upon unscrewing the lid the first thing to note is the smell and it is a sweet as candy (my husband referenced me smelling like a pic’n’mix), sniff it too long and you are bound to get a sugar rush. The applicator is fine, easy to use and glide the topper on without making any major mistakes.

The formula is really nice (This is my first Jouer lip topper and I will be getting more) it goes on incredibly easily and is very smooth. It feels very nourishing but not oily or slippy. One of the main things I liked is it is not at all sticky. I dread the feeling of my lips being stuck together when using a gloss or lip topper, but this gave no issues and was very light on the lip.

The colour on its own is very pigmented but subtle enough for day wear provided you don’t mind a bit of glitter.

My favourite look was to use it over a bright coloured liquid lip. Due to the formula being so smooth it really prevented my lips being dried out from the liquid lip underneath. It also held the brightness of the liquid lip colour whilst adding a dramatic shine to my lips. I felt like a my little pony being let free after living a life without rainbows and I loved it!! When adding this to an already bold lip this is drama so I do really think you have to be into that kind of look to fall for this particular topper.

Personally I do rate the product, it makes my lips feel lovely and smooth, it has great colour pay off and adds the extra shine on top of a coloured lip so it is right up my street.

If your a fan of Jeffree and it’s something you’d love to have in your collection snap it up but be prepared to shimmer more then a disco ball.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments or on twitter @KateL564.
